Shortly after graduating, I was invited by a former friend to join an exciting new venture: the launch of a ghost kitchen-style pizzeria. The two founding partners brought financial backing and business acumen, but they needed someone to take full ownership of the culinary side—and that became my role. From scratch, I developed the brand concept, created the menu, and invented the pizza recipes through hands-on experimentation until the results met our standards. I also contributed to our social media presence and helped shape the voice of the brand during its early stages.
As the sole person in charge of kitchen operations, I handled everything from daily food prep, inventory management, sanitation, and quality control to opening and closing the space. In a delivery-only format, where customers judged us solely by flavour and consistency, I paid close attention to product quality and detail. I even supported our photographer during shoots, ensuring the visuals reflected the same care we put into the food. Though the business ultimately closed after roughly nine months due to financial sustainability concerns, the experience sharpened my ability to build a culinary operation from the ground up and operate under lean, demanding conditions.
